Jika Semua Orang Bisa Terbang

Terbang seperti burung. Itulah hal yang selalu diinginkan oleh kebanyakan orang, termasuk para penemu pesawat terbang di awal abad 20. Memang, saat ini untuk bisa terbang tidaklah sulit. Bisa menggunakan gantole, paragliding, skydiving, atau naik pesawat terbang. Tapi semua itu butuh biaya untuk melakukannya dan hanya bisa dilakukan di tempat tertentu saja. 

Banyak sekali para pemimpi yang mengingikan cara terbang seperti Iron Man [menggunakan kostum khusus untuk bisa terbang], karakter di komik Dragon Ball [menggunakan tenaga dalam untuk terbang], Superman/Clark Kent [menggunakan kekuatan super untuk terbang], atau Icarus [salah satu tokoh dalam mitologi Yunani yang memiliki sayap untuk terbang]. Mereka semua dapat terbang kapanpun, dimanapun, dan yang terpenting tanpa mengeluarkan biaya sedikitpun [kecuali Iron Man yang mengeluarkan biaya untuk menciptakan kostumnya].

Dalam film-film sci-fi pun sering memperlihatkan dunia masa depan dimana semua orang terbang dengan mobilnya. Sebagai contoh:

Apa yang akan mungkin terjadi jika para ilmuwan berhasil menciptakan dan mengomersialkan [mass product] kendaraan-kendaraan tersebut ? Berikut ini adalah hal-hal yang ada di pikiran saya:

• Perusahaan ban akan bangkrut karena minimnya [tidak adanya] permintaan.
• Pesawat terbang akan terbang lebih tinggi, mungkin hingga atmosfer, dan dapat mendarat secara vertikal [tipe VTOL; Vertical Take-Off and Landing] untuk menghindari kendaraan pribadi yang lalu-lalang di udara.
• Angka kematian meningkat karena banyak orang yang meninggal karena jatuh dari ketinggian akibat kerusakan mesin kendaraannya.
• Bentuk traffic light akan berubah. 
• Akan ada jenis SIM baru.
• Bentuk helm standar akan berubah.

Tapi daripada memikirkan itu, lebih baik memikirkan kendaraan/mesin yang tidak menimbulkan polusi. Karena kondisi bumi saat ini sudah semakin parah.
